This work presents the results of the latest research obtained by the international Syrian-Russian underwater archaeological expedition in 2021-2022, which were conducted in the Syrian Arab Republic. The research is conducted in a region that for thousands of years has been one of the key places in the maritime trade routes of the Eastern Mediterranean – in the waters of the province of Tartus and the island of Arwad, which is mentioned in the Old Testament biblical texts and was a major trading city-state in the Phoenician, Greek and Roman periods, along with Tyre and Sidon, and has not lost its significance in the Middle Ages.
The purpose of the research was to search, record and survey underwater archaeological sites in the waters of Tartus province and Arwad Island. The survey of the area was carried out using various modern technical means and a diving group. The publication can be recommended both for specialists on this topic, for graduate students and undergraduates, and for a wide range of readers interested in history.
