While constituting a logical follow up of the previous author’s book “Syria in Conflict” this monograph contains a country case study of the theoretical notions of economy of armed conflict, parallel/siege economy, and the Russian “security matrix.”
The first volume analyses economic premises and causes of the Syrian conflict along with the damage and social consequences, i.e. everything bringing economy to the edge of collapse. The author has used extensive and diversified materials together with the empiric data gathered during his 2014–2017 diplomatic stint in Damascus. Many of these materials have been newly introduced in scientific circulation.
The book addresses a broad audience of experts and readers interested in the political economy, economy and the contemporary history of Syria, as well as in modern development of the Middle East countries and international relations.
