Mumyosho. Conversations with Shotetsu
Translator: Mariya Toropy`gina
Санкт-Петербург, 2015, 432 p.
The book presents the translations of the 2 monuments of Japanese mediaeval literature: “Notes without Title” (“Mumyosho”) (XIII cent.) and “Conversations with Shotetsu” (XV cent.). Both texts belong to the genre “reflections on poetry”. Their authors are acknowledged poets of their time. They consider in these works a wide circle of problems relating to poetic theory, history, and practice. Kamo no Chomei is well known to the amateurs of Japanese literature because of his “Notes from the Cell”. He perfectly knew the life of poetic community and all historical tales and legends which were being spread in this circle. Shotetsy was a professional poet and created tens of thousands of verses during his life. The “Conversations” are addressed mainly to his pupils. Shotetsu tells them about some details of poet’s work. The presented texts are the first translation in Russian.
