The monograph is based on documents from Russian and foreign archives, which made it possible to analyze the legal status of subjects of the Russian Empire in China on the eve and during the Russian revolutionary crisis of 1917–1922, to describe the role of the former Russian consuls in protecting the rights of Civil War refugees, to study the attempts of associations of Russian emigres, international organizations and the Soviet government to regulate their status in China, to trace the characteristics and development of the political and legal status of Russian emigres in the turbulent periods of Soviet-Chinese relations (1924–1930), during the escalation of the internal political crisis in China and military conflicts in the world (1931–1949), their re-emigration and repatriation from China to the USSR (1945–1949).
