The book, based on the study of archaeological and written sources, reveals the history of the ancient capital of the state Shang-Yin – “Great City Shang” (14 – 11 cent. B.C.). The author examines the history of archaeological study of the ancient capital near Anyang, including the palace-temple centers and “royal” necropolis. She also scrutinizes the “archives” of oracle dice, found during the excavations, tells about connection between different crafts and arts in “The Great City Shang”. The Supplement presents the author’s translation of the 3rd Chapter of ancient literary monument The “Current” Bamboo Annals.
