Portugal Colonial Empire. 1415 – 1974
Москва, 2014, 382 p.
A prerequisite for the formation of Empire was the surrounding of Portugal by Spanish Kingdoms and the inability to land territorial expansion towards Europe. The great geographical discoveries of the late 15th cent., the activity of the Portuguese nobility and commercial elites led to the creation of the largest maritime Empire of the next few centuries. Portugal owned dozens of colonies in the North Atlantic, Latin America, Western, Equatorial and Eastern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, India, and South-East Asia. By the 18th cent., the Empire lost most of its possessions, and in 1974 – 1975, as a result of “April Revolution” in mother country, ceased to exist. The author of this book tells in detail about the stages of creation, periods of prosperity and collapse of Portugal colonial Empire.
