The collection is dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian orientalist Yu.N. Roerich (17.08.1902 – 21.05.1960) and is the result of the last five years (2006 – 2010) of the annual “Roerich Readings”, held at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences since 1960. The offered articles covering geographically and thematically the area of research interests of Yu.N. Roerich (classical Indo-Tibetica) open a wide range of contemporary issues. The phenomena of ancient and medieval culture with a focus on contemporary approaches to the concept of “text”, including generative models, cultural codes, etc. are considered. This is beyond the title of the book and is associated with the development of a new methodology. Contents of the collection include a number of fields of the humanities: “Linguistics and lingvo-philosophy”, “Generation of doctrinal text”, “Building code and ritual”, “Psycho-cultural phenomena and the text”, etc. Of particular interest are the study and the first publication of the monuments of Tibetan painting from the collection of the Roerichs.
