This collection of articles contains the materials of the International Seminar in Suzdal that finalizes the implementation of the first stage of the two-stage research project by the Institute of Oriental Studies (RAS) – “Security in the West, East and Russia: understanding and concepts”. The participants of the Seminar were both young scientists and well-known experts from Mos-cow (IOS, RAS); Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, RAS; Institute of Asian and African Studies (Moscow State University); Russian State Humani-tarian University. The scientists from Ivanovo, Barnaul and Vladivostok, as well as from Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Italy also made their tribute to the Seminar. Not only the reports presented at the Seminar, but also the texts of discussions are published in this work. The papers show how the lexical items, identifying security and related terms were formed, changed and complicated in the area of different cultures and states, beginning from Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and China and ending with modern Russia, Italy, Mongolia and Central Asia. The book comprises information about the authors. It is meant for all those who are interested in historical aspect of security problems in terms of culture. This Seminar was held with the support of Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Friedrich Ebert Foundation (both from Germany).
