This collection of articles is devoted to the analysis of transformation pro-cesses in the countries of Central Asia and in the Caucasus, conflicts and vectors of tension connected with these processes. “Conflictogenity” and “transformation” are the key words of this research which aims to reveal mu-tual relations between these phenomena. And indeed, the analysis made by the authors of the collection concerning the situation in each state in Central Asia and the Caucasus, has confirmed that such a connection exists. This book deals with different subjects from today life in the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus which directly or indirectly relate to the conflicts created by the transformation. The themes touched upon are: aggravation of social problems, difficult search for identity, features of the formation of elites, the rise of nationalism, the role of external forces, alteration of the vectors of economic development, psychology of violence, etc. The authors tried to analyse the degree of predeterminacy of the conflicts in the epoch of system changes, their nature and active forces. The published material reflects the authors’ viewpoint, which does not necessary coincide with the approach of project directors or editors.
