The book tells about the history of Russian-Egyptian relations in the middle of the 19th century. There is a diary of the Ural foreman Ivan Borodin in the center of the story. This diary is dedicated to his stay in Egypt and Sudan as a member of the expedition of E.P. Kowalewsky in the 40s of the 19th century. The book is meant for Orientalists, experts in the history of Ural mining industry, as well as for all those who are interested in Russia's ties with the countries of the Arab East. It also can be used as study guide for courses on the history of Ural mining industry and the history of Russian-Arab relations.
