Еditor: Bobrovnikov Vladimir, S. Miri

Москва, 2016, 440 p.

The book “Orientalism” by Palestinian-American scholar Edvard Said was published in 1978. According to the author, academic Orientology (or Oriental studies) is not only an impartial scientific discipline. One of the tasks of this science was initially the justification of colonialism in the past and modern expansionist policies of the Western powers. The publication of this book indicates that the study of consequences of Orientalism continues not only in the Third World countries and former colonial mother countries, but also in Russia. The object of research in most articles of this collection is the Muslims living in traditionally Islamic regions and migrants, as well as the Orientalists of colonial epoch and the subsequent Soviet period in Russia. This collection of articles is intended to help the reader to understand the mentioned problem. The book is meant for a wide readership.
