India - Tibet: Text and Intertext in Culture: Roerich Readings 2012-2015 at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences

Editor: Viktoriya Vertogradova

Москва, 2017, 312 p.

This collection of research articles represents the results of the annual Roerich Readings held at the Institute of Oriental Studies since 1960, spanning the last few years (2012-2015). These readings are dedicated to the memory of the eminent Tibetologist, Indologist, and Central Asian specialist Yuri Roerich. Examining the ancient and medieval cultural monuments that comprised classical "Indo-Tibetica," the authors explore a wide range of contemporary issues, primarily contemporary approaches to the concept of "text," drawing on little-studied ancient and medieval authentic texts—Vedic, Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan, Tamil, Nepalese, Chinese, and Japanese. Discussions about the transformation of meanings and the dialogue between texts contribute to the development of a new methodology in contemporary humanities scholarship, linked to the concept of "intertext." Of particular interest is the study and first publication of Tibetan paintings from the collection of Yu. N. Roerich.
