This collection of articles is based on the materials of the International Scientific Conference “Abkhazia in World History and International Relations”. The conference was held in the capital of the Republic of Abkhazia in Sukhum on 14 – 17 May 2015. The conference was devoted to the 70th anniversary of the birth of outstanding scientist, the first President of the Republic of Abkhazia, leader of the Abkhazian people for independence – Vladislav Grigor’evich Ardzinba. For many years he was a member of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Scientists from various centers and institutions participated in the conference. Among them are the scholars from South Ossetia, Poland, Turkey, Russian Federation (Moscow, St. Petersburg), as well as the representatives of Russian national republics, such as Udmurtia, Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, Ingushetia, Dagestan. Research centers of the Southern Federal District of Russia also actively participated in the conference. These scientists are from Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol Territory, Pyatigorsk, Krasnodar. In accordance with the conference sessions, the book consists of four parts.
Part 1. The role of personality in history. V.G. Ardzinba as a person, scientist, polician.
Part 2. Ancient civilizations of the East and Abkhazia.
Part 3. Peoples, cultures and religions of the Caucasus in historical perspective.
Part 4. Abkhazia in past and present. The formation of independent state in the context of internationalrelations. The book covers a wide range of materials. It is a significant and weighty contribution to the Caucasus Studies.
