The book embraces the papers delivered at the VII Conference of IOS, RAS arabists (13 – 15 April 2009). The main subject of it was “Arab countries in modern and mediaeval world. The estimation of the Arabs’ role and place in world history in the Middle Ages, modern age and contemporary history”. The following problems were discussed: political role of Arab states in con-temporary world; comparative historical analysis of the role and place of Ara-bic world in regional and world processes in the second half of XX – beg. of XXI centuries; the response of some Arab countries and Arab region as a whole to the challenges of contemporary epoch. Some other issues were also under discussion, such as: thrifty strategy of Arab world against the background of world economic evolution, the attitude of the Arabs towards the questions of “new financial architecture”, and the role of Arabic oil and gas on the Planet; historical, geographical and cultural aspects of Arabic areal formation in the Middle Ages, modern age and contemporary history, the Arabs’ tribute to Mediterranean and World civilization.
