The centenary of the Xinhai revolution and the Republic of China (ROC) was celebrated all over the modern “Chinese world” and evoked a keen response within the world scientific community. In commemoration of the jubilee, Rus-sian scientists arranged for a number of scientific activities and publications. On December 19, 2012, there was an International Conference “Xinhai Revo-lution and Republican China: a Century of Revolutions, Evolution and Mod-ernization” held in Moscow. The collected articles from the conference are based on priceless archive materials and historiographic sources, covering over a hundred years of Chinese history. The articles deal – synchronically and diachronically – with particular events, issues and personalities, as well as with general social processes, phenomena and trends, (taken in a cen-tenary retrospective). These articles are grouped into four sections: 1. Xinhai Revolution within the context of China’s general historical development; 2. Xinhai Revolution and republican China before WWII; 3. Social and politi-cal development of China after WWII; 4. Xinhai Revolution and republican China in the world historiography. The book is supplied with Summary in English and Chinese and Abstracts of some articles in English. The authors hope that this publication will help fulfill the world Chinese studies and be-come instrumental in conducting new studies, leading to better understanding of the role of revolutions, evolution and modernization in the historical and current development of China.
