Water and Energy Resources of “Greater” Central Asia : Water Scarcity and Resources for Coping with it
Москва, 2015, 230 p.
The primary purpose of this monograph is to review a range of issues related to water and energy resources in the countries of Central Asia. The term “Greater Central Asia” is suggested with the goal to include in the field of view not only the former Soviet republics, but also the neighboring countries, where some of the Central Asian rivers originate. The central focus of this research is the problems of water scarcity, which affect all sectors of the economy including energy in the region. The scenarios and measures of their political and economic solutions are analysed here. Such measures include birth control, ameliorating the level of education, diminishing the share of the agrarian sector, the use of resource-saving technologies and renewable energy development, as well as regional cooperation among countries in the region. The author also points to the need of using the international experience in resolving water issues.
