The book includes 102 documents from the Department of Manuscripts, State Museum of L.N.Tolstoy. This part of epistolary heritage of L.N.Tolstoy embraces a period from 1896 till 1910, when the teaching of a great Russian writer and thinker became famous beyond the borders of Russian Empire. For the peoples of the East and India among them he seemed to be a prophet and mahatma who had answered to all vital problems of their life. The published documents can be divided into 3 parts: Tolstoy’s correspondence with Indians; correspondence with Europeans about Indian problems; correspondence with Russians about Indian theme. The publication is supplied with commentaries.
