The state of United Arab Emirates is located in the Arab Peninsula, in the South-East part the Persian (Arabian) Gulf. It was established on 2 December 1971 as united emirates of Trucial Oman. This territory was also named Trucial Coast or Trucial Sheikhdoms in connection with a number of treaties dictated by Great Britain to Trucial Oman in 1819, 1835, 1853, and 1892. After gaining independence all seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, and Sharjah) of this federative state moved rapidly from mediaeval backwardness to modernization and modern society. This region had been little-studied in all respects up to the middle of 20th cent. For Oriental studies in Russia it was not known at all. Hereafter, the history of the development of emirates and modern achievements of UAE were reflected in Russian scientific literature, as publications in periodicals and books. This work considers in detail the main topics touched upon by Soviet and Russian researchers and the authors of popular editions from the middle of 20th cent. to the present day. This book is the first Russian historiography of United Arab Emirates.
