The author analyses ICT sphere in Asian countries: production and exports of ICT goods and IT-services and changes in the international division of labor. Countries of East and South-East Asia have become leading exporters of ICT goods. Particular attention is attached to analysis of exports of electronic components, the growth of these exports is a proof of further intensification of international division of labor. The division of labor between Asian countries is based not only on comparative advantages (wages differences), but also on the effect of economy of scale. The aim of the author is to trace global value chains in the electronic industry of the region. Asian countries, India in the first place, but also China and the Philippines, have become leading providers of computer services (IT-services) and business-process outsourcing services in the world market. The author analyses various stages of development of the industry in its main centers, its proliferation to new centers and new countries. New actors have emerged in ICTsphere – they are transnationals from Asian countries: China, India, South Korea, Taiwan. The author analyses their positions in main world ratings, their particular features and the rise of new billionaires from the IT industry of Asian countries. A real new challenge for Asian countries that have become successful exporters of ICT goods and IT-services is the development of robotics, automation and artificial intellect. It may affect the whole landscape in the Asian IT industry. In the final part, the author makes an attempt to depict these new challenges, to find out how they will influence global value chains in the IT industry and to show some of Asian countries’ and Asian transnationals’ responses to the new challenge.
