The authors of this collection of articles pay the main attention to the belt of Islamic states situated along the Southern borders of the Caucasus and Central Asia. It includes: Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, as well as Kurdish regions of Iraq and Syria. The articles are written mainly by the participants of the representative Scientific conference held in the Institute of Oriental Studies (RAS) in November 2010. The researchers examine the peculiarities of the modern stage of socio-economic evolution of the regional states, social and demographic processes, cultural and historical traditions and innovations, ethno-political problems, fight with terrorism, external policy of regional countries. Special parts of the book are devoted to Afghanistan-Pakistan tangled conflict knot and internal political events in nowadays Turkey.
The book is meant for scientists, experts, journalists, post-graduates, students and all those who are interested in the developments taking place to the South of Russian state boundaries.
