This volume focuses on electoral processes in South-East Asia in the modern era. It analyses the different electoral systems of the region, how they function and interrelate with national legislative systems. It also considers the influence of the electoral factor on selected elements of the political systems, such as party structures, political elites, civil society and on the political process as a whole. Seven countries of the region are systematically examined: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines. These particular cases are included, since the legislatures and executives in these countries are elected on the basis of constitutionally regulated, universal and general electoral laws in the context of multiparty systems and a certain degree of competition among the participants of the electoral process. The book is meant for undergraduate and graduate students, studying the course of “World Policy”, “Political Science”, “Global Processes”, “Foreign Regional Studies”, “Oriental Studies”, as well as for a wide readership interested in modern political processes in Eastern countries.
