Predynastic Egypt. A Boat at the Origins of the Civilization

Москва, 2015, 152 p.

This book is dedicated to the cherished memory of E.S. Kulpin-Gubaidullin (1939–2015). The author on the basis of petroglyphs in Upper Egypt exam-ines the possibility of shipbuilding in predinastic period. Primeval petroglyphs include, as one of main themes, numerous graffiti of “outlandish” boats, most of which is located in the tens kilometers from the Nile. The book deals with various academic versions of the existence of these boats. All the hypothesis-alternatives, in spite of their difference and diversity, have one unifying principle. All scholars deny even the slightest probability of that carved on the stones in the desert “ships” some time really sailed here. The author of this book offers his vision of the question. He suggests that the construction of ships and the materials, from which they are made, may become one of the archaeological keys to the pressing problems of hydrology in “the Country of Big Hapi” on the eve of its civilization. The book is meant for historians, students of historical departments and readers interested in the early states, as well as in ancient technology and equipment.
