Medieval mindset. An Indian Variant

Москва, 2007, 375 p.

The main theme of the book is the world perception of the Indians in pre-colonial epoch. The author is interested both in the specific features of this worldview and its comparability with the mental patterns of the other pre-modern societies. Various aspects of medieval mentality are therefore juxtaposed to the much better researched categories of medieval European culture. Analysis of different sources has made it possible to attempt reconstruction of the “mental program” of medieval Indian society and its constituent groups, to delineate the ways they viewed such core elements of being as Space, Time, Society and Man. Each of these four problematic blocs is treated in a separate chapter.
